Artist Talks of Phases

Crowther Establishes Internet Presence

  17 March 2003

Like most artists, Robbie Crowther's ambitions have gone through phases.
Knowing one is an artist is something, "you just know", practically from
birth. If all your waking hours are spent thinking about the next creation
or how to capture the light on a leaf or gesture drawing negative space in a
notepad...chances are, you are an artist. Like most artists, Robbie
Crowther "just knew".

But life has a funny way of squashing hopes and dreams and making one settle
for something that will "put food on the table". Often times, Crowther
heard that art was an avocation, not a vocation. There is nothing unusual
here. Artists of all kinds throughout the centuries have heard these very
same words. It all sounds pretty stereotypical and it's no wonder that
these very phases have brought Robbie Crowther to this point in her career.

Crowther spent years in various locales such as San Diego, New Mexico,
Northern California, Oregon and now Florida. Each locale brought new
opportunity to hone the exceptional skill she displays in her work.
Crowther's unique approach to capturing light upon the paper she works,
makes her subjects come to life in a literally outstanding way. They seem
multi-dimensional in their layers of color and the way one feels as if the
animals can be touched.

When Crowther's Pro-Rodeo, Cowboy husband bought a cattle ranch in Oregon,
she moved on to the phase she continues to this day. She felt it was time
to finally pursue and develop her lifelong ambition of fine art. After
painting in most mediums, pastels seemed perfect for her. Having spent
years with horses, dogs and cats, she naturally decided to paint what she
knew best. Crowther, with renewed ambition, spent years studying fine art
by taking workshops with accomplished artists while continuing to
concentrate on animals, their behavior, and their anatomy.

This accomplished former professional illustrator and sign maker, now living
in Marianna, Florida, continues her fine art phase. A phase that she plans
on taking through her middle-age and retirement years. Crowther has made
art a vocation against the odds.

Robbie Crowther now travels to many regional shows displaying her fine work
and formally announcing her new web site, www.robbiecrowther.com . Crowther
s website contains her online portfolio as well as original paintings and
prints for sale. In addition, Crowther is available for commissioned works
of various animals, especially pets of the bird, horse, dog and cat variety
where she excels in capturing the very essence, spirit, and nature of the
animal.
